Primary Grades (1-3)
In the primary grades, Christ the King School fosters a nurturing and positive environment that encourages our students to become the best version of themselves: academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and faithfully. Our primary grades offer a full time aide in addition to the general education teacher to ensure our students receive differentiated instruction, and develop core, foundational skills in all subject areas. Students are empowered to develop a love of learning in a safe and supportive classroom environment. Our self-contained primary grade classrooms encourage cooperative learning in small groups and learning centers. Every classroom is equipped with a classroom library and has access to individual tablets.
Our academic strength focuses on an evolving and carefully articulated curriculum grounded in Ohio State Learning Standards and Diocese of Toledo Course of Study. The curriculum begins with the Kindergarten program and continues to expand in each subject area as students advance in grade levels. The English Language Arts curriculum is carefully selected to inspire young readers and writers. The ELA curriculum includes Scholastic LIteracy and Orton Gillingham. The Math curriculum is carefully selected to inspire critical thinking and problem solving skills. The Math curriculum includes Go Math, which focuses on hands-on learning, group practice, independent practice, and encourages students to explain their thinking through discussion and written explanations.
Our social-emotional strength focuses on educating the whole child, nurturing their self-esteem, and promoting positive mental health grounded in faith. The Social-Emotional curriculum includes Blest Are We and Second Step. Blest Are We drives our Religion curriculum and helps students connect with our faith. Second Step is a research-based program used to explicitly teach social-emotional learning and offer support to students.
